"Power use" is our estimate of energy per 24 hours at 90°F outside and 37°F inside, scaled from the maker's published average draw. * = no published fridge-mode draw, so it is estimated from capacity (calibrated on fridges that publish one) and is less reliable. Thermoelectric coolers run continuously, so they use their full rated power. See how fridge power ratings work or run your own numbers in the battery runtime calculator.

How we score fridges
01

Draw, not hype

We use each maker's published average power draw where it exists, and label our estimate when it doesn't.

02

Trips first

Weekend camping, overlanding or a day at the beach: we rank fridges by the trip they suit, not the biggest ad budget.

03

Tools, not just words

Runtime, solar and sizing calculators built from real specs turn "will it last?" into an answer.

Portable fridge FAQ

What is the best portable fridge in 2026?
It depends on your trips and power setup. Our top-rated pick overall is the ICECO VL45 ProS. Best dual zone: the ICECO VL60 Dual Zone. Best battery-powered: the Anker SOLIX EverFrost 2 40L. Our best portable fridges guide ranks them by use case.
Is a 12V fridge better than a cooler?
For trips longer than a day or two, usually yes: a compressor fridge holds a set temperature (and can freeze) without ice, so there's no melt water, no soggy food and no daily ice run. A cooler is cheaper, lighter and needs no power. Our fridge vs ice cost calculator shows how fast a fridge pays for itself.
How long will a battery run a portable fridge?
A 100 Ah lithium (LiFePO4) battery runs an efficient 45-quart fridge for roughly three to five days without charging, depending on the weather and the fridge setting. Lead-acid batteries give about half that. The battery runtime calculator estimates it for your fridge, battery and temperatures.
What size portable fridge do I need?
Roughly 35–45 quarts for two people on a weekend, 45–60 quarts for a family or a longer trip, and a 60+ quart dual zone if you want a separate freezer. The fridge matcher suggests a size for your group and trip length.
